Overview

The Combined Basic Life Support & Moving People course provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely respond to emergencies and assist individuals with moving and handling in health and social care settings.

Delivered in line with current legislation and recognised best practice, the course covers high-quality CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, choking management, anaphylaxis awareness, recognition and management of shock, together with safe moving and handling techniques, dynamic risk assessment, use of handling equipment and person-centred care.

Through a combination of classroom learning, practical demonstrations and supervised assessments, learners will develop the confidence and competence required to respond safely and effectively within their role.

What you'll learn

  • Basic Life Support
  • Understand the principles of Basic Life Support.
  • Conduct a primary assessment using the DRSABCD approach.
  • Recognise an unresponsive casualty and assess breathing.
  • Perform high-quality adult CPR.
  • Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Recognise and manage choking emergencies.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and understand emergency treatment.
  • Recognise and manage shock.
  • Place an unconscious breathing casualty into the recovery position.
  • Understand infection prevention during resuscitation.
  • Moving People (Manual Handling)
  • Understand current moving and handling legislation.
  • Apply dynamic risk assessment before moving an individual.
  • Demonstrate correct posture and body mechanics.
  • Safely assist with:
  • Sitting to standing
  • Standing to sitting
  • Assisted walking
  • Bed mobility and repositioning
  • Slide sheet techniques
  • Lateral transfers
  • Safely use moving and handling equipment where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively throughout moving and handling activities.
  • Reduce the risk of injury to both staff and individuals receiving care.
